In our Christian tradition memorial services are important worship services in which we proclaim the Christian promise of the Resurrection, and to give thanks to God for a life that has enriched our own lives. At the same time the service should provide an important opportunity to comfort one another in our shared loss. The ordained and lay leadership of the First Congregational Church stand ready to help you plan an appropriate Christian memorial service in our sanctuary or in a local funeral home. We know that you may feel overwhelmed at this time. To ease the burden of planning the service, the pastor can suggest a complete order of worship combining an appropriate and traditional selection of prayers, Scripture, and music. The pastor and the leadership of the First Congregational Church have prepared a guide to help you plan an appropriate memorial service. Many families have found it to be very helpful. You can download a copy from this page, below. Because the church office is generally not staffed during the week, please call Rev. Stivison directly to arrange a memorial service in our sanctuary, at a funeral home, or at the graveside. He can be reached at 973.951.4194.
